How does coaching differ from counselling?

At times, there may be overlaps.
Coaching focuses on helping people who are already successful in many areas of life deal with the one or two areas that are troubling them. Similarly a fit person may go to a sports coach to achieve more in a particular sport. Coaching works from where you are now and helps you move forward.

Is life coaching just a fancy name for positive thinking?

No.
Positive thinking isn’t enough to cause real and lasting change. When the going gets tough negative thoughts come back again which often result in the person being worse off. Lasting change comes from recognising self-limiting beliefs, and replacing them with new insights that will work. This is best done while being supported by an independent coach.

Am I coachable?

Yes if your desire to live life more effectively is greater than how much you just want to stay being comfortable. Coaching isn’t a vitamin pill and won’t work just because someone else thinks you need it. The following attributes help greatly, if you’re willing to
Accept your limitations
Be resilient in the face of setbacks and disappointments
Commit yourself to taking action to change your current situation into something better
See what’s good and do it
Think clearly
Work on your faults

Can I get to know you a bit before committing to coaching?

Yes certainly I would like to get to know you as well. In a free initial consultation you'll get great value from experiencing a litttle coaching and asking your questions in the 45 minutes we spend together.
Call me to make a time by phone or Skype or if you're in Christchurch we can meet in person on the same basis - 45 minutes, free with no-obligation on either your part or mine to continue the coaching relationship unless it'll work and we both want to.

What’s the next step?

If you send me an email then I will contact you. Otherwise feel free to call me on (03) 981 1650 and make an arrangement that suits us both. Your privacy is assured. Your contact details will be confidential - no one else will get to see them.
